The other day I was washing my pots and pans and was annoyed at how dirty and stained the outside of them were. I don’t even understand how the outsides get so dirty, but my beautiful cream colored pots and pans are now streaked and splotched with brown crusty junk that won’t come off with a simple hand-wash or even a little elbow grease with a Scrub Daddy.
I know. Can you even believe it?!
I have spent numerous hours and dollars on trying to keep the outside of my pots and pans clean and aesthetically beautiful.
Embarrassingly, I’ve even thrown out perfectly good pots and pans just because the outside was stained and they didn’t look good on Instagram. I bought EXPENSIVE pans because they went viral on Instagram claiming to make my life and kitchen prettier. And then the outside of them got stained and the inside of them lost their non-stick surface faster than I can leave the house for a girl’s night.
I know there are ways to get this caked on crud off the pans. There’s pink stuff and abrasive sponges and magic eraser and baking soda and bar keepers friend. But I’m done trying. The insides work fine, so why do I care so much about the outside being pretty?
I’m giving up. I’m letting it go. I’m not spending a dime more on cleaning products or even new pans unless they stop performing well when cooking. And it feels SO FREEING.
So I posed the question on Instagram… what is it in YOUR life that you are also giving up? Letting yourself OFF THE HOOK for. And here were your responses and a bit of commentary from me on them.
Read with caution, though. These are not for every mom. These are not even for ALL moms. They may not be for YOU. But maybe there is something in here that you can look at your life and realize you can let go of, too.
